BERGEN FINISHES THIRD IN THE NATION
3/14/09 - The Bergen Men's Basketball team defeated #2 ranked Hudson Valley CC 65-61 to earn third place in the NJCAA National Division III Men's Basketball tournament at SUNY-Delhi.
The Bulldog victory capped off a remarkable playoff run that saw the team sweep through Region XIX Playoffs and go 2-1 at Nationals. Their only loss came at the hands of No. 1 ranked Minneapolis Community and Technical College in the National Semi-Final.
"We are very proud of how the group came together right before the playoffs," said third year Head Coach Sean Kelly.
"This is a special group. When our back was against the wall we played hard and were able to make a great run."
Bergen was led by Elgin Brown's (6'5 Forward, Dickinson HS) 23 points and 27 rebounds. Jewry Hernandez (6'3 Forward, Union Hill HS) three pointer with :46 seconds left put the Bulldogs ahead for good and solidified third place for Bergen, who was making their first trip to Nationals.
"We feel we have a good group coming back next year with nine Freshmen returning," said Kelly.
Bergen finishes the year winning 6 of 7 games and improved their record to 20-16.

BULLDOGS COME UP SHORT VS. No. 1 in Country
3/13/09 - The Bergen Bulldogs could not complete a valiant comeback versus the No. 1 team in the country, Minneapolis Community and Technical, and lost in the National Semi-Final 69-58.
The Bulldogs were down two with one minute remaining to MCTC, who moves on to the National Final vs. Richland CC tomorrow night at 8 p.m.

BERGEN CAPTURES REGION XIX CROWN
2/28/09- The Bergen CC Men's Basketball team defeated Sussex CCC 75-68 this afternoon to win its first Region XIX crown in school history.
Bergen jumped ahead early and controlled most of the first half, taking a 42-31 lead into the locker room. Bergen extended its lead to as many as 18 points in the second half.
The Bulldogs were able to hold off a furious Skylanders (19-12) run late in the 2nd half that saw the lead trimmed to just seven points with just under three minutes to play.
The victory propels Bergen CC (18-15) to the NJCAA National Tournament at SUNY-Delhi March 12th-14th. The tournament features the top eight teams from around the country.
The victory capped a remarkable playoff run for the Bulldogs who upset nationally ranked Passaic CC in the first round and Brookdale CC in the Region Semi-Finals.
The Bulldogs were led by Elgin Brown's (6'5 Forward, Dickinson HS) 20 points and 15 rebounds. Brown was named tournament MVP.
Derrick Ross (6'2 Guard, West Side HS) scored 13 points and 8 boards for the Bulldogs off the bench. Jewry Hernandez (6'3 Forward, Union Hill HS) scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds while Brandon Alexander (6'5 Guard, Edison Job Corps) chipped in 11 points in the victory.
Aaron Dorrell (5'10 Guard, Teaneck HS) contributed 8 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists in the victory.

BULLDOGS ADVANCE TO REGION XIX FINALS
2/26/09 - The Bergen Men's Basketball team upset Brookdale CC 76-56 on Thursday. The Bulldogs will advance to the Region XIX Finals on Saturday vs. Sussex CCC at 1 p.m. at County College of Morris.
The Bulldogs were seeded # 7 going into the tournament and have thus far upset #2 seeded Passaic and # 3 Brookdale.
The Bulldogs were led by Jayvon Beaty (6'8 Forward, St. Anthony's) registered a double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Derrick Ross (6'2 Guard, West Side) scored 18 points in the win.
Sophomore Aaron Dorrell (5'10 Guard, Teaneck) filled up the stat sheet with 10 assists, 6 points and 4 steals for Bergen.
Sussex CCC, the # 4 seed, knocked off # 1 seeded Middlesex to advance to the Finals. Bergen split the season series with the Skylanders with each team winning tilts away from home.
The winner of Saturday's game will advance to represent Region XIX at the NJCAA Nationals at SUNY-Delhi March 12th-14th.
Bergen Knocks Off Passaic CCC in Region XIX Playoffs
2/21/09 - The Bergen CC Men's Basketball team upset Passaic County Community College this afternoon 67-66 in the first round of the Region XIX Playoffs.
The Bulldogs were led by Elgin Brown's (6'5 Forward, Dickinson HS) 25 points and Jayvon Beaty's (6'8 Forward, St. Anthony's) 17 points. Derrick Ross (6'2 Guard, West Side) chipped in 11 points in the win.
Sophomore Aaron Dorrell (5'10 Guard, Teaneck) dished out 10 assists for the Bulldogs.
Bergen (16-15) lead by one point at the half 32-31. The teams had split the season series.
Bergen will advance to the Semi-Finals at County College of Morris on Thursday at 1 p.m. They will face the winner of Brookdale vs. Gloucester.
Bergen Advances to Playoffs On Buzzer Beater
2/17/09 - Forward Jayvon Beaty's (6'8 Forward, St. Anthony's) tip in with with :01 second propelled the Bergen CC Men's Basketball team over Union CC 71-69. The Bulldogs improved their record to 15-15 and have advanced to the Region XIX Playoffs.
The Bulldogs were led by Elgin Brown (6'5 Forward, Dickinson HS) who scored a game high 16 points. Aaron Dorell (5'10 Guard, Teaneck HS) scored 14 points and dished out 7 assists in the victory.
Bergen Loses At Gloucester 66-63
2/14/09 - The Bergen Mens basketball team came up short at conference foe Gloucester CC, falling 66-63. The Bulldogs must win Tuesday night vs. Union County College in order to advance to the playoffs.
The Bulldogs, who beat Gloucester earlier in the year at home, were tied at the half 37-37.
